Blackberry Picking
The Hedges are officially here in Portland! Sarah and I grew up together in Boca Raton. Even though I moved when we were 8, we have managed to stay best friends over the years. Pacific University’s Optometry School was the true impetus for the move, but I also like to claim responsibility. I am so thankful that God has brought them here. Sarah and her husband Steve are truly family to me.
This weekend, the Hedges, Viviana Dadson, Bryan and I headed to Sauvie Island for some late season berry picking. Although most bushes were picked over, we found a hedge of blackberries overflowing with ripe berries. We braved thorns to take home enough berries to attempt to make jam. Jam-making was surprisingly easy which could possibly be a sign that I did it wrong? The first batch should be ready tonight so we will see.
